Travis Bickle's end, truth or fantasy?

How interesting. I never got that impression or even entertained that idea. I took the ending as a twist of irony rather than hallucination. Now I will have to re-watch this film from that perspective. I'm not sure if it would be a plus to have Travis hallucinating without exploring it further. It could be a plus if there were more to the film but since the film is already shot, I would merely have to watch it from the alternate perspective and consider it internally.
