Why didn't the onion yield any DNA?

So, we had to do an experiment for Biology and we had to extract DNA from strawberry and onion using the cold ethanol and water method using a spooling rod and test tubes. The strawberry test tubes yielded DNA, but the onion ones did not. I am completely stumped as to why the onion test tubes did not yield any DNA, so, any thoughts?
