Texas : Denied Employment Former Employer Bad Mouthed Me?

I just recently applied was hired went through training with a trucking company. The last day of training I was pulled to the side and told that my hiring process was then halted. All of a sudden, I was told that a former trucking company said that I was in a accident. There was no report to any police station, and the incident was not on my Dac report. After two weeks of the company giving me the run around call this person, call that person etc. I was told at 4pm my time that I needed to request additional information about this incident from my previous employer. A employer from 3 years ago. What would you do? What are your thoughts? I have all ready made my mind up that this employer is one that I truly need in terms of upping my future salary in trucking.
