What would happen if I killed a red tail hawk.?

Now, understand this.. I know that the Red Tail Hawk is protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. As an animal lover, I am aware of the hatred that this question may or may not bring. Now, I have a small farm, ranging from turtles to horses, I have chickens, and mallard ducks. I have seen twice a Red Tail, swoop down and grab a male mallard, twice.. and have been missing, males and females. Now, we eat the eggs, and feel our ducks, (with names for them all) are part of the "family" I feel that I have the right to protect me and mine. I'm just trying to get different opinions. I see that Hawk several times a week in the sky above, and this is just coming and going, and the time spent doing yard-work.
